Professor Charles Xavier is the founder of the X-Men, and mentor and father figure to his students. He founded Xavier's School for Gifted Youngers in 1962, following his involvement in the Cuban Missle Crisis. Some of his first students were Havok, Banshee, and Beast, but he closed the school years later after many personal struggles. He would later re-open the school, where Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm would be among his newly recruited class. Xavier was thought to be dead after he was witnessed to be killed by the Phoenix, but he actually survived, sending his consciousness into a braindead body under observation by Moira MacTaggert on Muir Island. Once coming back to, he reunited with Magneto, and recruited Wolverine to reform the X-Men to battle the growing Sentinel threat, before finally sending Logan's consciousness back in time to change the future.
Cyclops is the field leader of the X-Men, and one of Xavier's first students. He was recruited to Xavier's school after escaping from William Stryker's mutant experimentation laboratory on Three Mile Island, where Xavier rescued him and the fellow mutant escapees. Cyclops became a member of the X-Men, alongside Jean Grey, Storm, and Beast, and developed a romance with Jean Grey. After his involvement in the Liberty Island incident, Cyclops was captured by William Stryker and taken to Alkali Lake. Here, Cyclops was a part of the dam destruction, and was later killed by Jean Grey, "resurrected" as the Phoenix. However, following Logan's time travel actions, Scott Summers is alive once more in an alternate timeline where the Sentinel menace never came to be.

Storm would be killed during the final battle against the Sentinels in an attempt to protect Logan as he was sent back in time. Jean Grey was recruited to Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters as a girl by both Xavier and Magneto. While here, Xavier, concerned over the strength of her powers, created mental barriers in her mind to keep her powers under control. This created an alternate personality, known as Phoenix, that Xavier had to work to keep under control. With the Phoenix personality under control, Jean Grey was an active member of the X-Men, and helped defeat the Brotherhood of Mutants at Liberty Island. However, the incident seemed to have destroyed her mental blocks, as her powers seemed to continuously grow. These expanded powers led to her death at Alkali Lake, but she was able to save the lives of all of her fellow X-Men. She was thought to be dead, but returned from underneath Alkali Lake, having survived by keeping herself in a cocoon of telekinetic energy. However, once returned, her psychic barriers were completely destroyed, and the Phoenix persona was unleashed, taking out her fury by killing both Cyclops and Xavier. While Jean tried to battle back the Phoenix persona, she was eventually taken by Magneto to join the Brotherhood in his attack on Alcatraz. Here, she wiped out countless mutants and military personel before finally being killed once and for all by Logan. He'd see her alive once more after his time travel actions created a new timeline where Jean Grey was seemingly never killed and the Phoenix persona never unleashed.

Logan's history begins in the 1800's, where he discovered the man he believed was his father actually was not. It was then that he discovered that Victor Creed was his brother, and the 2 went off together fighting in virtually every major conflict in American history since the Civil War. In World War II, he was held as a P.O.W. in Japan and was present for the bombing of Nagasaki where he saked Yashida from the destruction. Following the wars, Logan was recruited by William Stryker to join Team X, where in Laos, Nigeria they slew a tribe of villagers for a source of adamantium. Logan left the team, starting a new life for himself with Kayla Silverfox. Stryker discovered them, and shortly after, Kayla was hunted down by Creed. This led to Logan volunteering for the Weapon X procedure where he was bonded with an indestructable adamantium skeleton. The events erased his memory, and he wandered aimlessly until he was rescued from an attack by Sabretooth by the X-Men. Logan joined the X-Men and fought alongside them for the Liberty Island incident, the incident at Alkali Lake, and the battle on Alcatraz. Following the battle on Alcatraz, where he killed Jean Grey, Logan went back into isolation where he was discovered by Yukio who had been tracking him on behalf of Yashida. Logan traveled to Japan to say goodbye to Yashida, where he found himself entangled in a political conflict that saw him protecting Mariko from the Black Clan and the Silver Samurai, and falling in love with her in the process. After leaving Japan, he was recruited once more by Magneto and a thought to be dead Xavier, to battle back against the impending Sentinel takeover. After years of fighting Sentinels, Logan was sent back in time to stop the assassination of Bolivar Trask. His actions in the past created an alternate timeline where the Sentinel takeover never happened, along with many of the events he experienced in his life.
